2017-2018 Mellon Graduate Fellowships in Digital Humanities

The College of Arts and Science invites applications for Mellon Graduate Fellowships in Digital Humanities for the 2017-2018 academic year.

The Center for Digital Humanities opened in Fall 2016 and serves as a focal point for digital humanities scholarship at Vanderbilt. Through a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the College of Arts and Science will select seven Mellon Graduate Fellows for affiliation with the Center in AY 2017-2018.

Mellon Graduate Fellows will pursue training in digital humanities through coursework, research, or dissertation writing, depending on their stage of doctoral study and the requirements of their doctoral programs.

Mellon Graduate Fellows will be permitted to reserve a year of Vanderbilt graduate fellowship support, thus adding a year to the number of promised fellowship years they receive from Arts and Science.

Eligibility: Graduate students in good standing may apply to be Mellon Graduate Fellows in any year after their first year of graduate study, with the endorsement of their department and advisor. Up to six fellowships may be awarded to graduate students enrolling in the joint program in Comparative Media Analysis and Practice (CMAP).

Applications should include:

  1. Application Form;
  2. Curriculum Vitae;
  3. A statement about the candidate’s interest in and preparation for digital humanities scholarship and a description of the proposed activities (coursework, research, or writing) during the fellowship year (3-5 pages);
  4. Three letters: one letter of recommendation from the DGS of the applicant’s doctoral program and two additional letters from Vanderbilt faculty familiar with the candidate’s work and research.

Click here to apply. Directions for providing letters of recommendation will be provided on the application form. All materials must be received by March 20, 2017.
