Welcome to our site! Our objective is to provide access to a range of resources to support school personnel as allies for students who identify as LGBTQ.

School climate survey results have shown higher rates of student reported bullying and social aggression (i.e., teasing, social exclusion, gossiping) related to sexual orientation and gender expression. In an effort to facilitate school climate improvement, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) initiated professional develop opportunities for school personnel aimed at strengthening their knowledge and skills to serve as allies for all students.

Over the past 2 years, MNPS has partnered with Oasis Center and Peabody College to provide and evaluate ally development training, specifically designed to support students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ). Oasis has provided one-hour trainings to over 2,233 personnel in 51 schools. In July 2015, Oasis and Peabody provided two full-day workshops for 50 teachers, counselors, and other school personnel.

This site is designed to provide resources to school personnel to support their ability to serve as effective allies for LGBTQ students. The pages include:

  • Resources for the Classroom,
