Changes to User Logon Names for Active Directory
If you own an application that requires the User Principal Name (UPN) to authenticate users with Active Directory (AD) the upcoming change will affect the way that users access your application. On February 21, 2014, VUIT will update the value for the AD attribute UPN “VUnetID@ds.Vanderbilt.edu” to “VUnetID@Vanderbilt.edu”. This change is required to support the upcoming introduction of Microsoft Office 365 in the Vanderbilt environment.
In AD, a UPN is the username in an email address format. The username is followed by “@” which is followed by the domain name with which the user is associated. An example might look like “VUnetID@ds.Vanderbilt.edu”. The UPN can be used in place of the legacy “domain\vunetid” to log on to Windows operating systems and/or applications that use AD for Authentication. The UPN name should match the email name of each user.
Check to see if your applications require the, UPN for user login and modify the application configuration as necessary to use, the new UPN value “@Vanderbilt.edu”. Instruct your users that use UPN logon to start using “VUnetID@Vanderbilt.edu” for logging into your application beginning February 21, 2014.
