New Vanderbilt Certificate Authority

Posted by on Thursday, February 6, 2014 in News.

At 6 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, Vanderbilt University Information Technology (VUIT) will deploy changes to part of the Medical Center wireless environment. This will affect the following areas:

  • 1207 17th Ave. S.
  • 1024 18th Ave. S.
  • 2611 West End
  • All remote clinics
  • Belcourt buildings
  • Crystal Terrace
  • EBL
  • Hudson
  • Light Hall
  • MRB1
  • MRB2
  • MRB4
  • Oxford House

Some devices may need to reconnect to the wireless network after the change. This change will improve roaming across the Vanderbilt wireless network. In order to perform this change, VUIT will deploy a new Certificate (CA). CAs are digital keys placed on your device that allow the device to access the VUIT wireless network. Devices managed by VUIT should not experience any changes.

Personal devices (mobile phones, tablets, personal computers, etc.) will need to be configured to accept the new CA. A guide for configuring most common devices can be found here. Click on, “Wi-Fi Connect Now,” then click on, “Help Me Change My Certificate Authority to vuNET,” then select your preferred device. The setup process will only need to be performed once per device.

If you require assistance with connecting your device, contact your technical support provider or the Help Desk or 343-HELP (4357).
