DiamondIP – DNS/DHCP/IPAM Replacement

Posted by on Monday, May 2, 2016 in Outage.

If you make DNS changes regularly or perform other network configuration tasks for your department, servers, or applications, please read the following information carefully.

On Monday, May 16, Vanderbilt IT (VUIT) will begin the process to abate its legacy Vanderbilt University DiamondIP infrastructure supporting the following critical campus network services:

•             DNS

•             DHCP

•             IP Address Management

Change Dates

While these changes will be major, no visible impact to campus network users is expected. Important schedule and configuration change information is below.   VUIT has structured these planned changes so that there will be no outage for campus users of DNS and DHCP services for:

•             May 16: Change One – DNS Deployment

•             May 17: Change Two – DHCP Wireless Cut Over

•             May 18: Change Three – DHCP Wired Cut Over

Configuration Changes

After the successful completion of the changes, VUIT will provide administrators with a 3-month change period between May 18 and August 18 to reconfigure their DNS entries as follows:

University devices currently configured to resolve against:

•             129.59.1.10

•             129.59.2.10

•             129.59.1.9

•             129.59.2.9

•             129.59.1.7

•             129.59.2.7

Will need to be reconfigured to resolve against:

•             10.2.189.78

•             10.4.162.82

No DHCP changes will be necessary to accommodate this change.

Question and Answer Session

VUIT will conduct a community Q&A session on May 4 from 2 to 3 p.m. for the Vanderbilt community to ask questions regarding the upcoming changes.

•             Join by phone: (615) 421-8800 or (855) 320-3551
