<\/a><\/p>\nI am a social studies teacher educator committed to understanding the role of democratic theory for promoting the enactment of deep democracy in schools and communities. In my work I value teaching and learning for civic engagement, active citizenship, and social justice in and related to knowledge, practices, and discourses of social studies education, its disciplines, and through community resources.<\/p>\n
In my teaching and research I focus on how knowledge, skills, discourses, and dispositions are leveraged for a citizenship and justice orientation in the fields of social studies education, teacher education, teacher research, and democratic theory in education. In particular, I am concerned with how teachers and students engage in substantive discourse and meaningful action related to relevant social, political, or economic issues affecting their communities.<\/p>\n
