Kennedy-Institut f\u00fcr Nordamerikastudien, Freie Universit\u00e4t, Berlin, will address \u201cGertude Stein\u2019s Portrait of C\u00e9zanne\u201d in a lecture on Thursday, March 17, at 4:10 pm in Buttrick Hall 305 on Vanderbilt\u2019s main campus.\u00a0 A recipient of a two-year \u201copus magnum\u201d grant from the VW Foundation, Haselstein is currently writing a book entitled <em>Gertrude Stein\u2019s Literary Portraiture<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The author of monographs on psychoanalytic literary theory and on the concept of the gift exchange respectively (both in German), Hasselstein has co-edited scholarly volumes published in English, including <em>Iconographies of Power: The Politics and Poetics of Visual Representation<\/em> (2003), <em>Cultural Transactions: 50 Years of American Studies in Germany<\/em> (2005), <em>Aesthetic Transgressions<\/em> (2006), <em>The Power of the Aesthetic in American Culture<\/em> (2007), <em>The Pathos of Authenticity: American Literary Imaginations of the Real <\/em>(2010), and <em>The Cultural Career of Coolness<\/em> (2013). She is also the editor of a DFG research symposium on allegory with contributions from literary studies and art history (forthcoming in May 2016).<\/p>\n<p>Haselstein\u2019s lecture is sponsored by Max Kade Center for European and German Studies, Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities, Program in American Studies, Department of English, Department of French and Italian, and Department of History of Art.
