{"id":5236,"date":"2016-03-29T17:08:02","date_gmt":"2016-03-29T17:08:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hartdoctors.com\/?p=5236"},"modified":"2016-03-29T17:08:02","modified_gmt":"2016-03-29T17:08:02","slug":"fine-arts-gallery-event-spotlights-blair-school-of-music-faculty-and-student-composers-on-march-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/arthistoryblog\/2016\/03\/fine-arts-gallery-event-spotlights-blair-school-of-music-faculty-and-student-composers-on-march-29\/","title":{"rendered":"Fine Arts Gallery Event Spotlights Blair School of Music Faculty and Student Composers on March 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hartdoctors.com\/2016\/03\/29\/fine-arts-gallery-event-spotlights-blair-school-of-music-faculty-and-student-composers-on-march-29\/march29image\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5238\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5238\" src=\"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/arthistoryblog\/2016\/03\/march29image.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"march29image\" width=\"300\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a>Join the HART department and the University Fine Arts Gallery on March 29 at 7 p.m. for a special evening of music in the Cohen Gallery and the inaugural performance of four short compositions to be presented in conjunction with <em>Close Readings: American Abstract Art from the Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery Collection<\/em>.\u00a0 A reception will follow the performance.<\/p>\n<p>The evening will spotlight Blair School of Music faculty composers Michael Alec Rose and Michael Slayton, and two student composers, Charlie Hackemer and Ian Herrera, each of whom has responded to works within the exhibition with a new composition.\u00a0 Blair students, including those participating in the exchange program with the Royal Academy of Music, London, will perform these works.<\/p>\n<p>This event is free and open to the public, and parking will be available free of charge in Lot 95, accessible from 21st Avenue South.\u00a0 Those unable to attend the evening program on March 29 will be able to access the recordings on the Fine Arts Gallery&#8217;s website and on mobile platforms, such as smart phones and tablets, within the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Free and open to the public,<em> Close Readings: American Abstract Art from the Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery Collection<\/em> will remain on view through May 26.\u00a0 Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.\u20134 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 1\u20135 p.m. through April 25.\u00a0 Gallery hours\u00a0 from April 26 through May 26 are Tuesday through Friday, noon\u20134 p.m.,\u00a0 Saturday, 1\u20135 p.m., and closed Sunday and Monday.<\/p>\n<p><em>Close Readings<\/em> is supported by a generous gift from the Terra Foundation for American Art on behalf of board member Greg Williamson, with additional support provided by the Ewers Gift for Fine Art.
