Overview
In this course, you will learn the basics for completing a Sight Reduction Form to obtain a Line of Position (LOP), which is fundamental to astronavigation (astronav or celestial navigation as it is also known). We will begin with a brief overview of the concepts of astronav which describe its application in terrestrial navigation. The mechanics of plotting an LOP will then be introduced to illustrate the purpose of the Site Reduction Form. Finally, we will work through a straightforward example using the Sight Reduction Form to obtain values to plot the LOP of a celestial body. If you would like a supplemental guide through the videos, or are planning to use it in a classroom setting, we recommend using the Lab Worksheet with the course.
