MATLAB Processing

MATLAB processing occurs in order to process raw data, or partially processed, data from the five sensors. Seen below is a simple decision tree that outlines the algorithm considerations that are made in order to send an alert. While discrete thresholds are used for a number of sensors, the physiologic range of many biometrics, primarily respiratory rate and heart rate, lends themselves to an individualized percentage-based threshold.

For external blood, a binary signal is obtained. Should a physiologically relevant glucose concentration be detected, it is assumed that the officer is bleeding, and an alert will immediately be communicated to the dispatcher. This threshold is set based on observed voltage difference from baseline based on prior lab testing.

For acceleration, the X, Y, and Z axis acceleration are obtained. These raw voltages are converted to an acceleration based on information provided in the datasheet for the sensor. The magnitude of the acceleration was calculated and a binary decision was made to calculate risk.
