{"id":470,"date":"2014-05-02T15:54:24","date_gmt":"2014-05-02T20:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/conversationsconversas\/?page_id=470"},"modified":"2014-05-30T09:46:09","modified_gmt":"2014-05-30T14:46:09","slug":"vesna-pavlovic-hallucinated-cities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/conversationsconversas\/vesna-pavlovic-hallucinated-cities\/","title":{"rendered":"Vesna Pavlovi\u0107: Hallucinated Cities"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><em>Hallucinated Cities<\/em><\/h2>\n<h3>S\u00e3o Paulo, Bras\u00edlia, and Rio de Janeiro<br \/>\nOctober 3-14, 2012<\/h3>\n<p>Vesna Pavlovi\u0107 traveled to S\u00e3o Paulo, Bras\u00edlia, and Rio de Janeiro as part of her ongoing research project, <em>Hallucinated Cities<\/em>.  The project addresses the conflict between architectural and photographic representation, and how it relates to ideology in Brazilian modern architecture.  Borrowing the title from a seminal volume of M\u00e1rio de Andrade\u2019s poems published in 1922, the project considers the photographic transformation of Brazilian modernist architectural objects from the 1930\u2019s to today, and the conflict, which arises through such representations.<\/p>\n<p>During her time in Brazil, she photographed important architectural monuments designed by Gregori Warchavchik, Rino Levi, Lucio Costa, Lina Bo Bardi, and Oscar Niemeyer, pioneers of Brazilian architectural modernism.
