Do the following
- Read through Sustainable Interaction Design by Eli Blevis
- Answer the Assignment 3 questions on Blackboard and repeated here.
You can answer this question “open book”. Submit one PDF file with the answer.
The “Internet of Things” (IoT) is defined online as
“the interconnection via the Internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data.”
Assume that each object that is on the IoT is associated with data stored in the cloud, with relations that include
ObjectEvent(ObjectID, DateTimeStamp, GPSLocation, Event),
where Event might be a pointer to an audio/visual recording, a notation, etc, either captured automatically or manually. Another relation might be
Own(ObjectID, ObjectOwnerID, Start, End),
where Start and End indicate the interval of ownership. Through queries of these and other relations, object histories can be associated, interweaved, and used to tell stories. Object histories can be open, private, and erased according to privacy preferences.
In 200 words or less, speculate on how data associated with objects on the IoT can contribute to achieving longevity of use, sharing for maximal use, and achieving heirloom status, as these concepts are discussed in Sustainable Interaction Design by Eli Blevis.
