{"id":201,"date":"2015-12-10T07:35:09","date_gmt":"2015-12-10T12:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/?p=201"},"modified":"2015-12-10T07:35:09","modified_gmt":"2015-12-10T12:35:09","slug":"help-ive-eaten-and-i-cant-get-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/2015\/12\/help-ive-eaten-and-i-cant-get-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Help, I&#8217;ve Eaten and I can&#8217;t get up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the alto saxophones in my section of marching band posted a picture of his Thanksgiving dinner plate onto his\u00a0twitter page.\u00a0\u00a0 The dinner plate had the caption &#8220;Help, I&#8217;ve eaten and I can&#8217;t get up.&#8221;\u00a0 If you watched a small amount of television a few years ago, then you would probably understand where that reference comes from.\u00a0 The inspiration for the caption was\u00a0numerous commercials for the product\u00a0Life Alert, which usually had commercials that depicted a very frightening image of an elderly woman in a compromising position because of her old age.\u00a0 This usually means a 75 year old woman falling down the stairs, or slipping in the kitchen or bathtub, or even falling out of bed.\u00a0 Life Alert had a device that looked very similar to a necklace that was wrapped around the patron&#8217;s neck.\u00a0 Whenever the patron was in a compromising position like one of the above listed, they were able to push the button, and call for help in case they were unable to get to the nearest phone on their own.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a note at the bottom of the commercial that states,\u00a0&#8220;Life alert defines a life saved from a catastrophic outcome as an event where a subscriber activated the system, had an actual emergency, was home alone, was unable to get to the phone to call for help and Life Alert dispatched help.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My friend&#8217;s caption is a perfect idea for a marketing idea because it draws on something that is so familiar to American audiences.\u00a0\u00a0 Life Alert has had so many different commercials out that the phrase would be immediately recognizable.\u00a0 The only question is how can we use it to market something around Thanksgiving?\u00a0 One idea is that you can use it in order to market a gym membership after Thanksgiving.\u00a0\u00a0 After people have their fill of Thanksgiving and realize that the treats of commercial Christmas\u00a0are around the corner, they might be more willing to go and get gym equipment or a membership.\u00a0 &#8220;Help I&#8217;ve eaten and I can&#8217;t get up&#8221; draws on the same feelings of anxiety about deterioration of health, but in a new light.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the alto saxophones in my section of marching band posted a picture of his Thanksgiving dinner plate onto his\u00a0twitter page.\u00a0\u00a0 The dinner plate had the caption &#8220;Help, I&#8217;ve eaten and I can&#8217;t get up.&#8221;\u00a0 If you watched a &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/2015\/12\/help-ive-eaten-and-i-cant-get-up\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4393,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-201","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/201","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4393"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=201"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/201\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":203,"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/201\/revisions\/203"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=201"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=201"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/f2015\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=201"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
