Progress Report #3

Our project is that of the design of a single, modular toy car intended to deliver mobility solutions to the children at the Higher Hopes Preschool and Pediatric Therapy Clinic in Franklin, TN.

We met as a group last to brainstorm design ideas specific to the principle needs we had identified and to discuss materials needed to accomplish constructing said designs. We were also successful in scheduling our weekly advisor meetings, biweekly presentation times, and group meeting times we could all attend. We also were successful in assigning the biweekly progress report write-ups amongst each of the team members. Furthermore, we were also successful in arranging a phone conversation with Nancy Darr, who is to be our contact for High Hopes Preschool.

We have not run across any major setbacks, however our progress as of yet is admittedly somewhat slow; we believe winter break has proven to be somewhat of a time drain that we did not fully utilize. Furthermore, the vendor list we had been using as a reference guide for parts was not the correct vendor list intended for the senior design program but rather one from the Instrumentation Lab and it was not until we met with our advisor that we realized this.

We currently have segmented our future progress into three main design phases, the first of which is the finalizing of the modular designs we are planning to incorporate into the finished car. The second is that of pinpointing appropriate vendors and finalizing/ordering the necessary materials. Finally, we need to actually put our car together.

While our shopping list is not yet set in stone, we can hypothesize costs will not be unrealistically high based off of observations of past Go Baby Go designs and the relatively low cost of the materials used. As far as time goes, we all agree we will need to boost productivity but are confident we will ultimately meet our deadline.
