Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I bring my child to My PlayClub?

My PlayClub is a free, inclusive play session where you and your kids can come play with and learn from other children in the community! Since children learn so much when they play, we want to encourage them to play with and learn from those who are different from themselves. So, we’ve created these inclusive play sessions to help facilitate those important interactions, and so that we can all have fun playing together while learning from each other! We have a variety of activities for children of all ages and abilities, and trained volunteers to help the day go smoothly.

What activities are available?

We have a variety of activities set up in stations, so that your child can enjoy the event to its fullest! We have several “Zones of Play” that we offer at each event:

  • A Musical Play Zone with musical instruments and toys.
  • A Craft Zone with a fun craft to complete with the help of a volunteer or a buddy.
  • A Bubble Zone with tons of fun bubble options for visual stimulation.
  • A Sensory Play Zone with fun toys for tactile stimulation.
  • A Book Zone with books about inclusion that you can read and take home with you (compliments of our wonderful sponsor, Advance Financial!).
  • A Face Painting Zone where our volunteers can paint your face or a fun stencil on your hands.
  • A Snack Zone where you can recharge with snacks and water.
  • A Quiet/Calm Zone where your child can take a moment in a little tent off to the side in case they might need a break from all the excitement.
  • And of course, the Inclusive Playground!

At every event, we also have a raffle where we give away a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card to one person who fills out our post-event survey!

Where do we host our events?

We have been approved to host our events at the following inclusive playgrounds:

  • Mary’s Magical Place at Veterans Park in Hendersonville, TN
  • Miles Together Inclusive Playground at Granny White Park in Brentwood, TN

We are working on getting approval to host these events at more inclusive playgrounds in the area, so stay tuned!

Who is the HOP Lab?

The Hands-On Play (HOP) Lab is a research lab in the Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. Our wonderful team is led by Dr. Amy Needham, and consists of trained graduate and undergraduate student volunteers from Vanderbilt University. Click here to learn more about our team!

Does it cost anything to participate?
