Can I keep my current web address?

Posted by on Monday, May 21, 2012 in FAQ.

Do you currently have your website at http://www.vanderbilt.edu/yourlabname ?

Option One: Request ITS to redirect your current folder

If you would like to keep this address — and have it point to your new website on my.vanderbilt.edu — simply fill out a request through ITS to set up a REDIRECT.

Go to this form: http://its.vanderbilt.edu/web-request

Put your contact information in — and your CURRENT web address — and at the very bottom in COMMENTS OR SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS — request that they redirect the directory and give them your new my.vanderbilt.edu address.

e.g. Please redirect http://www.vanderbilt.edu/joesbrainlab to http://my.vanderbilt.edu/joesbrainlab

Option Two: Upload a redirect file into your current folder

Follow the instructions below for creating a redirect file in your current website.

Create a file named index.html and copy the code below into it. Replace the three instances of http://my.vanderbilt.edu/####### with your new my.vanderbilt.edu address (e.g. http://my.vanderbilt.edu/yourname).

This will display a page for approximately 3 seconds to the user informing them that the site has been moved. It will then redirect the page to your new website.
