A Journey Through the Foster Care System

Morgan Hurst set a goal of identifying and understanding each step a child takes in the foster care system after the Department of Children’s Service takes them into their custody, in order to more fully understand how impactful a CASA advocate is to an abused, neglected, or dependent child’s life journey.

To represent her learning, she created a piece of visual art:

This photo set depicts the life of a select group of middle schoolers at KIPP Nashville College Prep. The photos span a two-month period and capture the students struggles and successes inside and outside the classroom setting. A photo set was selected to capture their lives due to the complexity of their lives and scenarios around each photo. The photos were intentionally placed in this order to show the ebbs and flow of the students’ attitudes and experiences.
