Jeffrey Bellin teaches and writes about criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence. Prior to coming to Vanderbilt he taught at William & Mary Law School where he received the Walter Williams Memorial Teaching Award for excellence in teaching from the 2014 and 2023 graduating classes. He also received a 2019 SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award, the Commonwealth’s highest honor for faculty at Virginia’s public and private colleges and universities.
Bellin received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his law degree from Stanford Law School. After graduation, Bellin clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and worked at the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C.
Bellin’s legal writing is regularly cited in judicial opinions and scholarly commentary. His commentary has been featured in media outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. Bellin is an elected member of the American Law Institute (ALI).
