I am Professor of Economics and the inaugural holder of the Frances &amp; John Downing Family Endowed Chair in the College of Arts and Science at Vanderbilt University, where I also hold courtesy appointments in the Law School and the Owen Graduate School of Management.<\/p>\n<p>Two major themes underlie my research: (<em>i<\/em>) the interrelationships between intellectual property rights (IPRs), technology transfer, and foreign direct investment in the global economy, and (<em>ii<\/em>) the economic rationale behind the WTO\u2019s trade rules and dispute settlement process.
