Statistical algorithms to<\/div>\n<div>fuse the output of multiple anatomical experts have been shown to be extremely<\/div>\n<div>successful in improving combined accuracy and estimating individual rater<\/div>\n<div>performance. In the interest of efficiency, human raters are commonly replaced<\/div>\n<div>with label transfer via registration from pre-labeled atlas datasets (e.g., \u201cmulti-<\/div>\n<div>atlas labeling\u201d). Yet statistical methods based on models of human behavior are<\/div>\n<div>often dramatically outperformed by simple voting techniques when applied to<\/div>\n<div>multi-atlas fusion. Hitherto, the literature on fusion methods has focused on the<\/div>\n<div>advantages of particular methods and has not presented clear exemplars to<\/div>\n<div>illustrate the relative limitations.
