- Open to all students, faculty, and staff in Vanderbilt Computer Science.
- Finalists will receive a $50 gift card PLUS a free t-shirt.
- The winning design will receive a $100 gift card PLUS an additional three (3) free t-shirts to give to your friends.
- Submissions can be emailed to Maithilee Kunda (mkunda@vanderbilt.edu). See end of this page for details of submission format.
Contest Rules
A. Who can enter:
- Individual or team entries are welcome.
- At least one team member must be a currently enrolled Vanderbilt Computer Science student (including CS majors, minors, and graduate students), or faculty/staff.
- The same individual or team may submit multiple entries.
B. Design requirements:
- Designs must incorporate the phrase Vanderbilt Computer Science or Vanderbilt CS. (The abbreviation “Vandy” may NOT be used.)
- Official Vanderbilt logo elements may NOT be used (e.g., the Vanderbilt “V”, star, or leaf).
- Any additional text or graphics relevant for our broad CS community is encouraged (e.g., general computing-related things, the phrase “School of Engineering”, etc.), but not anything specific to a particular CS program (e.g., “Undergrad CS”).
- Designs must represent the inclusive values of our Vanderbilt CS community, i.e., no images that exclude groups of people or are otherwise inappropriate for an academic community.
- Designs should incorporate at most 1-3 colors. The final design is expected to be printed in white/light ink on dark t-shirts of various colors.
- Designs may be one-sided (front of shirt only) or two-sided (front and back of shirt).
- Submitted designs do not need to be fully print-ready; the winning design will be touched-up as needed prior to t-shirt production. However, selection of finalists and voting will be based on designs as-is upon submission.
C. Rights and usage:
- All fonts and graphics must be the author’s own work, OR be free for noncommercial use without permission or attribution. (Tips: The website Pixabay has a wide selection of artwork/clipart that meets these guidelines. The website Dafont has fonts that are searchable by usage rights.)
- The winning design may be shared or posted on personal websites, social media, etc., by the creator(s), but may not otherwise be used or reproduced as a representation of the Vanderbilt CS department.
- The winning design or modified versions may be used by the Vanderbilt CS department on t-shirts or other merchandise in the future, and will always include attribution to the creator(s).
D. Questions:
- Any questions about this contest can be directed to Maithilee Kunda (mkunda@vanderbilt.edu).

Submit your design by Friday, October 22!
Please email your submission to Maithilee Kunda (mkunda@vanderbilt.edu).
- At minimum, please send in a transparent PNG containing only your design (i.e., without a tshirt image in the background).
- If you’d like, you may also include additional image(s) of your design on a shirt to show us how you’d like it to look.
- Remember that designs will be printed in light-colored ink on dark shirts.
- Please also include names of other team members, if any.
You should receive a reply to confirm receipt of your submission; if you haven’t received confirmation before the deadline, please email again.
