We are excited to share that our latest work on controlling thermal radiation using bound states in the continuum (BICs) has been featured as the Back Cover of Advanced Optical Materials (Vol. 14, Issue 6). https://lnkd.in/eQHYHGBM

Thermal radiation is typically considered broadband and incoherent. In this work, we demonstrate that through nanophotonic engineering and BIC-enabled resonances, thermal emission can be sculpted to become narrowband, directional, and highly controlled.

This capability opens exciting opportunities for infrared photonics, energy systems, sensing, and thermal management technologies. This work reflects our broader vision of reimagining light–matter interactions at the nanoscale—from nanophotonics and metasurfaces to quantum and energy applications.

A huge thank you to the talented students and collaborators who made this possible. This research was supported by the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program (ONR YIP) under the Metamaterials Program led by Dr. Mark Spector.
