NCPI researchers present paper at the 2007 Annual Meeting of the Midwest Political Science Association

Warren Langevin and Matthew Springer presented a paper titled, The Political Economy of Teacher Certification and Compensation. The authors present a comparative analysis of political, social, and economic influences on the diffusion of teacher certification and compensation laws. Preliminary results indicate state adoption of competency tests is significantly related to political culture and neighboring state decisions, but political scientists must consider a different set of explanatory variables to learn about alternative certification and monetary rewards for National Board certified teachers.
