If you\u2019ve always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, discover new adventures, or simply see the world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. This spring the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center is hosting Scuba Shack\u2019s PADI Open Water Scuba Diving Certification. The certification course is open to Vanderbilt University faculty, staff, students, and VRWC community members!<\/p>\n

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world\u2019s most popular scuba course, and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle. The course will take place in a VRWC classroom, the VRWC pool and local dive sites under the supervision of your PADI<\/strong> Instructor.<\/p>\n

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three phases:<\/p>\n

  1. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Knowledge Development-<\/em> (classroom at VU + DVD home study) – basic principles of scuba diving<\/li>\n
  2. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Confined Water Dives-<\/em> Vanderbilt to learn basic scuba skills<\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Open Water Dives-<\/em> various destinations to review your skills and explore \u2013 Lifetime Certification!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Course Fee: $450, payment made to Scuba Shack:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Wednesday, March 29:<\/strong> VRWC conference room 1 from 6-8pm<\/span><\/p>\n

    Cost breakdown of the charge per participant:<\/p>\n

    • PADI Textbook & materials + the PADI Certification Card- $110<\/li>\n
    • Scuba equipment rental (3 pool sessions and 2 open water sessions) + air tank fills- $175<\/li>\n
    • Professional Instruction (25-28 hours): Classroom, Pool, and Open Water Sessions- $100<\/li>\n
    • Quarry entry fees- $40<\/li>\n
    • Facility use fee- $25<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
