New Onset Bloody Diarrhea in a Liver Transplant Recipient

A 54-year-old white male presented with new onset abdominal pain and diarrhea over the past 2 weeks. Two years ago, he underwent an uncomplicated liver transplant (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma and HCV cirrhosis. He had received standard oral valganciclovir prophylaxis against opportunistic viral infections for 90 days post LT while on tacrolimus, prednisone, and mycophenolate and was tapered to tacrolimus monotherapy by month 6 postLT. He completed a 12-week course of sofosbuvir, daclatasvir, and ribavirin for his recurrent hepatitis C genotype 1 infection, without any adverse effects.
