Colonoscopy is one of the most common screening tests for colorectal cancer worldwide.1 Despite the advance in perioperative care, colonoscopy screening still exposes patients to risk of complications and even harms. Anesthesiologists play an increasingly vital role in perioperative care for patients undergoing colonoscopy, and anesthesia services can improve patient safety and decrease unnecessary complications in some conditions, particularly for high-risk patients. Accordingly, the use of anesthesia services during gastroenterology procedures, especially colonoscopy, has increased substantially.
