Hepatitis B Vaccination: Putting Hepatologists Out of Business?

In this issue of Gastroenterology Chang et al1 from Taiwan describe further outcomes of one of the seismic events in the history of hepatology, namely hepatitis B vaccination. There have been several of these seismic events that have and will continue to change the face of hepatology. Liver disease used to be almost invariably fatal, and diagnosis was late. The first and for decades only treatment available for liver disease was steroids for autoimmune hepatitis. Today we can cure, treat, or ameliorate most liver diseases.
