Diarrhea in a Patient with Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Question: A 51-year-old Hispanic woman from Mexico presented to the health department as part of a tuberculosis (TB) contact investigation. Her father had recently died of pulmonary TB. She reported a nonproductive cough for 1–2 weeks. A faint, left lingular infiltrate was noted on her chest radiograph (Figure A). Sputum was acid fast bacillus smear and culture positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. She was treated with rifampin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, ethambutol, and pyridoxine for pulmonary TB.
