We congratulate van Engelenburg-van Lonkhuyzen et al1 on their study on the effectiveness of pelvic physiotherapy in children with functional constipation. This randomized, controlled trial showed that pelvic physiotherapy was more effective than standard medical care in the treatment of children with constipation after 6 months of follow-up. This is the first study exploring a promising nonpharmacologic treatment for functional constipation in children with a longer follow-up. The results are in line with an earlier study by Silva et al2 that showed a significantly positive effect of a 6-week physiotherapy program on defecation frequency.
