Abstract 8 Celiac Disease Testing in Type I Diabetics: A Quality Assurance Project

Celiac disease (CD) is more common in patients with Type I diabetes mellitus (DM) (3%—10%) than in the general population (∼1%). The American College of Gastroenterology recommends that patients with Type I DM should be tested for CD if there are any digestive symptoms, clinical signs of CD, or laboratory evidence suggestive of CD.1 The aim of this quality assurance project at North Shore University Health System (NSUHS) was to examine the rate of testing for CD in this at-risk population (compliance) and to evaluate individual physician adherence to this guideline.
