An Unusual Cause of a Retroperitoneal Fluid Collection

Question: A 54-year-old woman with no known past medical history presented to our hospital with a 2-week history of left flank pain radiating to her left leg. The pain was sharp in nature, constant, and it was exacerbated by any movement. The patient had no urinary symptoms, no nausea or vomiting, and no change in her bowel habits. She denied any fevers, chills, or night sweats, but she did endorse losing 20 lbs over the past 1 year. On physical examination, the patient was alert and oriented, but slightly lethargic.
