Pancreatic Fusion Abnormality Found during a Whipple Procedure

Question: A 66-year-old man was admitted to the hospital owing to the presence of a pancreatic mass. His personal history and family history were unremarkable. There was no abnormality in serum tumor markers. An enhanced abdominal computed tomography scan was performed, and multiple cystic masses were found in the pancreatic head. Other auxiliary examinations showed no further abnormalities. A preliminary diagnosis of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm was made, and after obtaining informed consent, the patient was scheduled for a pancreaticoduodenectomy.
