Crohn’s disease (CD) patients are often colonized by adherent-invasive Escherichia coli (AIEC). Although the colonization by AIEC is known to contribute to the pathogenesis of CD, the mechanisms by which AIEC thrives within the inflamed intestine in CD patients remain elusive.
