We thank Dr Chung for his comments on our recent manuscript. As he states, the majority of studies relating microRNA (miR)-122 in the liver have focused on its role on hepatic viral infection and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Yet, little is known about the upstream regulation of this microRNA in disease states. Our study highlights the role of grainyhead-like 2 (GRHL2) in repressing hepatic expression of miR-122 leading to the subsequent increase in hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF1α), a miR-122 target, in alcoholic liver disease.
