Human Monoclonal Antibodies That Neutralize Pandemic GII.4 Noroviruses

Human noroviruses are responsible for approximately 200,000 deaths worldwide each year. In 2012, the GII.4 Sydney strain emerged and became the major circulating norovirus strain associated with human disease. Our understanding of the human norovirus-s… Continue reading

Rapid Disruption of Genes Specifically in Livers of Mice Using Multiplex CRISPR/Cas9 Editing

Despite advances in gene editing technologies, generation of tissue-specific knockout mice is time consuming. We used CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing to disrupt genes in livers of adult mice in just a few months, which we refer to as somatic liver … Continue reading

Model to Select On-Therapy vs Off-Therapy Tests for Patients with Refractory Esophageal or Extra-Esophageal Symptoms

It is not clear whether we should test for reflux in patients with refractory heartburn or extra-esophageal reflux (EER) symptoms, such as cough, hoarseness, or asthma. Guidelines recommend testing patients by pH monitoring when they are on or off acid… Continue reading

Stratification of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinomas Based on Tumor and Microenvironment Features

Genomic studies have revealed subtypes of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) based on their molecular features, but different studies have reported different classification systems. It is a challenge to obtain high-quality, freshly frozen tissue fo… Continue reading

Mortality From Post-screening (Interval) Colorectal Cancers is Comparable to That From Cancer in Unscreened Patients—a Randomized Sigmoidoscopy Trial

Endoscopic screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) is performed at longer time intervals than the fecal occult blood test or screens for breast or prostate cancer. This causes concerns about interval cancers, which have been proposed to progress more rap… Continue reading

microRNA 193a-5p Regulates Levels of Nucleolar- and Spindle-associated Protein 1 to Suppress Hepatocarcinogenesis

We performed an integrated analysis to identify microRNAs (miRNAs) and mRNAs with altered expression in liver tumors from 3 mouse models of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and human tumor tissues. Continue reading

Decrease in incidence of young-onset colorectal cancer before recent increase

The increasing incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in younger adults (age <50 years) has been widely reported. Using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program, we young-onset CRC incidence rates decreased from 1975 through about 1990. Decreases were more prominent in the colon, a contrast with more recent increases in rectal cancer. Incidence rates subsequently increased, differing by time period and 5-year age group. This inflection point is consistent with a birth cohort effect and points to early life exposures – accumulated throughout the life course – that may increase cancer risk. Continue reading

Identification of prognostic phenotypes of esophageal adenocarcinoma in two independent cohorts

Most patients with esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) present de novo. Although this may be due to inadequate screening strategies, the precise reason for this observation is not clear.. We compared survival of patients with prevalent EAC with and without… Continue reading
