P100 INCREASING RATES OF INFECTIVE ENDOCARDITIS IN PATIENTS WITH INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE

Infective endocarditis (IE) is a rare but reported extraintestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In addition to several case reports, there are small level retrospective studies that have suggested that IBD may be an independent risk factor for the development of IE. Patients with IBD are often immunosuppressed and undergo multiple procedures that render them susceptible to bacteremia and, subsequently, endocarditis. Despite this, there is a lack of evidence regarding the association of IE and IBD and no estimates of disease burden.
