P066 A VIRAL TREND: HERPES ZOSTER ERUPTING AT A YOUNGER AGE IN IBD PATIENTS

There have been uptrending rates of Herpes Zoster (HZ) in the U.S. in recent years, with an estimated lifetime incidence of 1 in 3 individuals in the general population. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), especially those on immunosuppress… Continue reading

P067 AORTITIS IN ASSOCIATION WITH CROHN’S DISEASE: HOW FAR CAN CROHN’S DISEASE HIT?

Crohn’s disease (CD) is an inflammatory disorder of unclear etiology that may involve the entire gastrointestinal tract from mouth to the perianal area and may be associated with several extraintestinal manifestations. Venous thromboembolic events re… Continue reading

P068 EXTRAINTESTINAL MANIFESTATIONS AND THEIR IMPACT ON REAL-WORLD TREATMENT PATTERNS AND OUTCOMES AMONG PATIENTS WITH ULCERATIVE COLITIS

Extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) represent symptoms outside the gastrointestinal tract and frequently occur among patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). The aim of the current study was to estimate the prevalence of EIMs in UC patients initiating … Continue reading

P069 MALIGNANCY RISK IN VETERAN PATIENTS WITH INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE: A RETROSPECTIVE COHORT STUDY

The association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer is well-known. However, the relationship between IBD and other malignancies has been less clearly defined in the literature to date. The objective of this study was to evalu… Continue reading

P070 MEDICAL THERAPY BEFORE PEDIATRIC CROHN’S DISEASE DIAGNOSIS IS ASSOCIATED WITH DIAGNOSTIC DELAY, BUT DECREASED RISK OF PERIANAL FISTULA IN ADMINISTRATIVE CLAIMS DATA

Crohn’s disease (CD) commonly causes perianal fistulas (PF), which are difficult and costly to treat. With 10% having PF present at CD diagnosis, delay in diagnosis is associated with worse outcomes. Furthermore, >20% develop PF later, with few reliable predictors, and preventive strategies are nonexistent. We sought to characterize the variation in CD diagnosis to identify potential predictors of PF development. We hypothesize that timely diagnosis and treatment is associated with lower rate of PF development. Continue reading

P071 NO INCREASED RATE OF ADVERSE IBD-RELATED OUTCOMES FOR PATIENTS WITH IBD AND CONCURRENT PROSTATE CANCER TREATED WITH RADIATION THERAPY

Some physicians have concern that radiation treatment for prostate cancer may precipitate flares or complications in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, controversy remains due to limited data in regard to the best treatment approa… Continue reading

P072 NOVEL RISK FACTORS AND OUTCOMES IN INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE PATIENTS WITH CLOSTRIDIUM DIFFICILE INFECTION

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at significantly increased risk for Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). CDI in IBD is associated with increased in-hospital mortality, IBD treatment failure, re-hospitalization and high CDI recurren… Continue reading

P073 RISK STRATIFICATION TO INCREASE VENOUS THROMBOEMBOLISM PROPHYLAXIS IN PEDIATRIC INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE

Objectives: Pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), but are often overlooked for pharmacologic prophylaxis. We instituted a risk-stratification algorithm to identify high-risk pa… Continue reading

P074 SUSTAINED IMPROVEMENTS IN FATIGUE AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH IBD AND IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA FOLLOWING A SINGLE COURSE OF FERUMOXYTOL: RESULTS OF A 6-MONTH EXTENSION STUDY

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA), common in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) due to blood loss, inflammation and malabsorption, negatively impacts patients’ health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Oral iron is often first-line treatment, bu… Continue reading
