Metabolic Alterations as a Signpost to Early Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic cancer is a terrible disease. Patients often become seriously ill within months of diagnosis and <10% of patients are cured of their cancer. To make matters worse, the number of cases of pancreatic cancer continues to increase each year, and it will soon become the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States.1 Thus, even in a time of hyperbole, one can reasonably say that dealing with pancreatic cancer is a matter of great urgency if we are to continue progress in reducing cancer-related mortality.
