Fentanyl Waste Was Reduced by Conservation Measures While Maintaining Patient Comfort During Moderate Sedation Endoscopy Procedures

Injectable fentanyl is widely used as part of moderate sedation for endoscopic procedures. In the setting of a national injectable fentanyl shortage, conservation measures were enacted in 4/2018 at our academic medical center, which performs over 14,000 moderate sedation endoscopy cases per year. We aimed to evaluate the impact of conservation measures on overall fentanyl use, fentanyl waste, and patient procedural tolerance.
