Optimizing Outpatient Colorectal Cancer Screening and Surveillance for the Gastroenterologist—A Quality Improvement Project

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the 2nd most common cancer among men and women in the United States and can be prevented through adequate screening and surveillance by physicians. Gastroenterologists encounter numerous patients in the outpatient setting with a variety of conditions; however, CRC screening and surveillance are not always addressed, especially at new patient visits. The aim of this quality improvement (QI) project was to optimize outpatient CRC screening and surveillance for new outpatients seen by gastroenterology fellows in their continuity clinic.
