Efforts to Eradicate Helicobacter Pylori in Hospitalized Patients: A Quality Improvement Project to Recognize and Overcome the Hurdles

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a common infection found in hospitalized patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. H. pylori is a major cause of peptic ulcer disease and carries carcinogenic properties, hence once diagnosed it must be treated. Antibiotics for the H. pylori treatment are often not well tolerated during hospitalization and hence carries a risk of patients being untreated after they are discharged.
