The Julius M. Friedenwald Medal is the highest honor bestowed by the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). Established in 1941, it honors an individual for lifelong contributions to the field of gastroenterology and significant contributions to the AGA. We know of no one more deserving of this recognition than Sheila Crowe, the 2023 Friedenwald Medal awardee. She has had a remarkable career in academic medicine—a true “triple threat,” advancing clinical care, research, and education—and has provided tremendous service to the AGA, culminating in the Presidency in 2017–2018.
