PROBIOTIC BIFIDOBACTERIUM AND A NEW GENERATION POSTBIOTIC: ALGINIC ACID

According to International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) consensus (2019),Postbiotics are defined as a preparation of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components that confers a health benefit on the host. Postbiotic Alginic acid, also called algin, is a naturally occurring, edible exopolysaccharide found in brown algae. Alginic acid and its Na/Ca salt form of Alginate show the capability in water-binding, water-retention water, and immense swelling and gelation, which could act as a protective barrier via promoting biofilm formation on the bacterial cell surfaces.
