An Incidentally Identified Liver Mass

Question: A 23-year-old man presented to hepatobiliary department with identification of a liver mass on a pre-employment examination. He reported no obvious symptom, but was anxious about the liver mass. Blood routine tests, hepatic and renal function, blood coagulation test, alpha-fetoprotein (4.7 ng/mL), carcinoembryonic antigen (0.75 ng/mL), and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (5.0 U/mL) were all in normal range. The patient was negative for hepatitis B or C biomarkers. The patient reported of a history of splenectomy after a traffic accident with traumatic splenic rupture 18 years ago.
