Age-Related Immunoreactivity to Gluten Peptides in Celiac Disease

In the November 2015 issue of Gastroenterology, Hardy et al1 present a comprehensive study comparing T-cell response to gluten peptides between children and adults with celiac disease (CD). The article highlights the hierarchy of immunogenicity of α- and ω-gliadin peptides in both groups. Remarkably, the authors conclude that T cells from children and adults with CD recognize similar gluten peptides, and therefore, “peptide based diagnostics and therapeutics for adults may also be used for children.”
