Undesired Final of a Student’s Beer Drinking Duel

Question: In the early morning, a 22-year-old member of a fraternity presented at our emergency department with retrosternal pain and dysphagia. He had participated in a beer drinking duel and had drunk about 1.5 L of beer, divided into smaller portions according to the rules of the drinking game. At presentation in our emergency department, the patient had regular vital signs, a blood alcohol level of 0.8%, and a low potassium level. A plain abdominal radiograph was taken (Figure A).
