Endoscopists frequently recommend and perform repeat colonoscopy (RC) sooner than recommended by guidelines, which exposes patients to the risks and costs of colonoscopy. Conversely, patients may be exposed to an increased risk for colorectal cancer if RC is recommended and performed at a later interval. The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy/American College of Gastroenterology Position Statement on Quality Indicators recommends a 90% adherence target for appropriate timing of RC after review of histologic findings.
