Improving venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in patients hospitalized with inflammatory bowel disease: A quality improvement initiative

Concern for bleeding is often the rationale for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis being held or not ordered in patients admitted to the hospital with active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This is concerning as these patients are prothrombotic and at elevated risk for VTE. We identified this as an opportunity to improve care.
