An Unusual Case of Liver Tumor

Question: A 60-year-old man with thalassemia presented with progressive right upper quadrant abdominal pain of 1 month’s duration. The pain was persistent, dullness and did not any radiate or migrate pain. There was no hepatitis B or C virus infection. The physical examination showed mild right upper quadrant tenderness. Laboratory tests revealed hemoglobin, 8.6 g/dL (normal, 14-16); alanine transaminase, 32 IU/L (normal, 5-40); alkaline phosphatase, 142 IU/L (normal, 38-126); and total bilirubin, 0.6 (normal, 0.2-1.3).
