In a recent survey of physicians under 40, only 28% reported being knowledgeable regarding personal finance and asset management.2 Less than one-quarter reported being on track for retirement, and a majority had <$100,000 in retirement savings. Although gastroenterology trainees emerge from fellowship well-trained in clinical gastroenterology, they receive little to no education about personal asset management. As such, they are often ill-prepared to make early career financial decisions that may have lasting implications.
